Jason Southwick and Steve Dodge both started playing disc golf in the 1980s. They also both spent many years playing Ultimate. This love of Ultimate grew an appreciation for the slower paced game of disc golf, which involves much less laying out.
Jason built Pyramids, the first disc golf course on Marshall Street, in 1988. Steve and Tom Southwick built Maple Hill, the second disc golf course on Marshall Street, in 2004. Tons (poundage wise) of volunteers have helped sculpt these courses into some of the most scenic and challenging disc golf courses in New England.
The Marshall Street pro shop has well over 10,000 golf discs, not to mention a dozen or so Ultrastars. We want to help continue the explosive growth of disc golf and to introduce the honor and respect of disc to sports and outdoor enthusiats world wide.
To help achieve this goal, we will continue to improve our courses, grow our store, and we are creating the Marshall Street Disc Golf Championship (MSDGC). The MSDGC has quickly become recognized as one of the best disc golf tournaments in the world, and the MSDGC DVD has introduced hundreds, if not thousands, of people to what disc golf is all about.
Jason's (and Tom's) grandfather is Steve's great-grandfather. That means that they are a generation ahead of Steve, which explains why they are so much older than Steve. |
