Q: Sir Torque, I've been playing for about 2 years and have noticed my game improving, but am still pretty erratic. I'd like to start tracking my score per hole per course in hopes of seeing if I can find a pattern to my double boggies and was wondering if you've seen any good sites/software out there. A: Thanks to our older cousin, ball golf, there is tons of score tracking software available. The best online score tracking software that I found is Golfing Record. And it's free! As with all things, the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it. My user name is Torque, and you can feel free to list me as a friend and (I think) gain access to the courses that I have input. Thanks to this question, I am going to begin tracking my stats and see if there are areas I need to improve on. Thanks for the question! Here are some quick terminology notes: SSS - Statistical Scratch Score. This is comparable to World Class Par in disc golf. So if you know the WCP for the course, enter it in the SSS field. Slope: This is a measure of the difficulty of the course of a beginner vs. a pro. For example, a wide open, short course would have a low slope (as beginners and pros will have scores about the same) vs. a long, wooded course would have a high slope. I would recommend leaving this field blank, although it will be great when we incorporate it into disc golf. Par: Depending what you want the software to teach you about your game, you can enter different data sets for the par. I used the par from the scorecard as a starting point. If you are a traditionalist, you can enter all threes here - although this probably won't help your game analysis. And if you are a WCP buff, you could adjust the course par to match the WCP / SSS of the course. Putts: How many shots within 10 meters did you take? (0, 1, 2, ...) 0 is a valid input, and 1 would be the goal. I put a dot on the score card for each putt I took. Fairways Hit: Did the disc fly unimpeded along the intended route? (Y/N) If you are a stats monger (like me) this is going to be a new and exciting part of your game. Enjoy. Sincerely, Torque Novitski, Marshall Street |
