In 2004 we ran the first Marshall Street Disc Golf Championship, and it went well. By 2005, Ken Climo stated he’d like to play if the Marshall Street boys let him in.
We’re all about fairness and a level playing field, and we never considered holding spots for certain players. We had, however, reserved five spots for players who wished to qualify during a single-round event the day before the actual tournament.
So we told Ken he had to qualify, thinking he’d find that as funny as we did. But he didn’t think it was funny. He was insulted.
We think about this from time to time. One conclusion we reached is that the ego — even with 12 world championships — is never satisfied. The other conclusion we reached? Ken’s a tender boy.
