A bird soaring gracefully through the air is cool n’ all, but that’s not the direction artist Micah Malone wanted to go here. Instead, he zeroed in on the talon and placed it amid one hell of a storm.
“I just wanted it to look more aggressive and not necessarily so majestic,” said Malone, who believes the talons are what really makes birds of prey a predator.
Malone has been a tattoo artist for more than 20 years and currently works at Outlook Tattoo in Ft. Worth, Texas. To him, the talons of large birds like golden eagles remind him of a switch blade: stowed away until needed. You can see that in his Thunderclaw design, with the talon and its razor-sharp claws beginning to unfurl, soon to pierce its prey.
