Z Jawbreaker Captain’s Caliber, First Run – Seppo Paju
$24.99
One of the most comfortable molds we’ve held in our hands in a long time. The Captain’s Caliber is here to split the Luna and Zone.

This plastic is listed by Discraft as Z Jawbreaker… BUT, we can’t tell the difference between this and what they’ve been calling Z FLX Jawbreaker. It feels just as soft and flexy, not extremely, but subtly.
The Captain’s Caliber is a well-positioned micro bead putt and approach disc that fills a genuine gap in the Discraft lineup between the Luna and the Zone. It’s a practical, throwable disc for anyone who wants a stable putter they can actually power up without worrying about it drifting off course. But the reason to pay attention to this disc goes beyond the flight chart.
Seppo Paju put 13 years of patience, a lifetime of competitive experience, and a clear sense of purpose into this one.
FAQ from Discraft:
“Do I need this if I already have a Luna?”
That depends on the shot you need. The Luna is one of the most trusted putt-and-approach disc with a neutral, workable flight that makes it effective for putting, approaches, and controlled drives. The Captain’s Caliber is designed to complement it by offering greater resistance to turn and a stronger, more dependable finish when additional power or stability is required.
With flight numbers of 4 / 3 / 0 / 3, the Captain’s Caliber is built to hold its line under power before finishing reliably. The Luna gives you touch and versatility; the Captain’s Caliber gives you added stability when you need to throw harder or manage windy conditions.
“Is it just a Zone SS with a new stamp?”
No. While both discs offer a more workable approach flight, they are built around different hand feels and shot shapes. The Captain’s Caliber features a subtle microbead and is designed for a more stable flight with dependable glide and a consistent finish. The Zone SS is a more workable version of the Zone, retaining the familiar feel of the Zone family while offering a straighter, more accessible flight. There may be some overlap, but the Captain’s Caliber brings its own feel, identity, and approach to controlled placement shots.
“How does it compare to the Axiom Envy?”
This is the most common cross-brand comparison you’ll see, and it’s a fair one for the slot. Both are stable throwing putters designed to handle power while still landing on a line you trust. The Caliber lives in that same general neighborhood but it’s in Z Jawbreaker plastic blend and backed by Discraft’s manufacturing consistency. If you’ve been an Envy thrower looking for a reason to expand your Discraft game, this is a natural bridge.
The mirco bead is worth calling out on its own. This gives the Caliber a comfortable, low-profile release that works as well on touch forehand approaches as it does on full-power backhand tee shots. It’s not a disc that’s trying to do everything, it’s doing one thing very well and that is
