Discmania
Discmania’s history is robust. Discmania was established in 2006 by Jussi Meresma and hit disc golf’s radar in 2007 and 2008 with the release of their original lineup of discs – the MD1, CD Craze, P1 Mania, P2 Psycho, and PD Freak.
Dual names for each disc – something that attracted players to the brand – would eventually become confusing. In 2014 Discmania stopped giving their stock discs double names, and launched such discs as the FD2, P1x, DDx, P3x, etc. All the models were unique, while also clearly made by the manufacturing experts at Innova.
In 2018, Discmania products were removed from the Innova East and West order forms, and the new distribution operation, ran by Austin Montgomery, began fulfilling its own orders.
In 2019, Discmania took a huge step as a disc golf conglomerate, and began having their discs produced by Latitude 64 and Yikun in addition to their Innova produced molds. The Originals Line (Innova), Evolution Line (Latitude 64), and Active Line (Yikun), all quickly found a place within the disc golf market. The Evolution Line began filling gaps in the Discmania meta, while the Active Line sought to bring Discmania’s discs in to the bags of beginner and Amateur players alike.
Soon after the start of the pandemic in 2020, the Originals Line of Discmania discs slowly dissipated, and eventually disappeared. For various and mostly undisclosed reasons, Innova stopped producing discs for Discmania.
As of 2022, Discmania took the reins on manufacturing their own discs. They do so in their own manufacturing facility in Sweden where the name “Innova” is all but a memory. Their buildup of Originals was slow, and is ongoing. Since their split from Innova, they’ve had to reverse engineer and reinvent all their old molds so they can once again produce them.
In 2023, Discmania was acquired by House of Discs. Venture Capitalists that already have ownership over Dynamic Discs, Latitude 64, Westside, Kastaplast, and Spinoff Games (Disc Golf Valley). Where will disc golf go from here?
